The largest hill settlement in the Kumaon region of Himalayas is the lake town of Nainital. A dramatic climb of 1,300 metres over a 40 km route from the railhead at Kathgodam takes the visitor through winding river valleys, alongside terraced farms, lush green alpine forests and over mountain ridges, right up to Nainital. Vantage points around Nainital offer a panoramic view of Himalayan peaks on one side and the plains rolling down on the other. Narrow wooded lanes through forests of oak, pine and deodar are excellent for short refreshing walks. The older parts of Nainital also retain colonial vestiges, including sprawling bungalows, public schools, church and the British cemetery.
Hanuman Garhi : This place is of religious importance. Situated at a height of 1951 meters this place was established by Baba Neem Kiroli. A very beautiful Hanuman mandir is at the top. From Hanuman Garhi watching the Sunset is very soothing. You can walk down from Nainital to Hanuman Garhi.
Naini Lake; This attribute lake is said to be one of the emerald green eyes of Shiva's wife, Sati (naina is Sanskrit for eye). When Sati's father failed to invite Shiva to a family sacrifice, she burnt herself to death in protest. Shiva gathered the charred remains in his arms and proceeded to engage in a cosmic dance, which threatened to destroy the world. To terminate the dance, Vishnu chopped up the body into pieces, and the remains were scattered across India. The modern Naina Devi Temple at the northern end of the lake is built over the precise spot where the eye is believed to have failen.
Naina Peak : Naina Peak known as the China peak this peak is the highest point in Nainital. From here Nainital appears as a bowl. You can walk or take ponies to the peak. From this peak you can capture the exciting views of Nainital. Naina peak also gives a good view of the Camelback peak. There are no hotel or restaurant on the top so carry food and water along with you.
Day 3. Nainital To Ranikhet

Sight Seeing:
Snow View : At the top, a close up view of Naina Devi (7816m), which was, as the old brass plate here tells you, 'the highest mountain in the British empire'. Naina Devi was India's highest peak until Sikkim (and thus Kanchenjunga) was absorbed into the country. There's a small marble temple dedicated to Dev Mundi housing images of Durga, Shiva, Sita, Rama, Lakshmana and Hanuman. From Snow View you can walk west to another point and then continue on to the main road to Kilbury. From here you could continue up to China Peak or head down the road to Sukhatal, passing great views of the lake in route.
Naina Devi Temple : The attractive lake of Nainital is said to be the eyes of Sati, wife of Lord Shiva. Sati jumped into the sacrificial bonfire. Lord Shiva to mourn the death of his beloved wife carried the body across the country. The remains of her body fell at various places which today are sacred worship places for the Hindus
Day 4. Ranikhet To Corbett

There are invaluable experiences for adventurous and serious-minded wildlife buffs, photographers and anglers in Corbett National Park. Walking in some areas is permitted, but only when accompanied by a guide as direct encounters with the big cat is not an unusual event in this part of the world. Bird watching should be a favourite pastime as there are 580 species of birds, most of them of the migrant variety, which arrive here in winter. Some of the species that are quite regular are graylag, bareheaded goose, duck, grepe, snipe, sandpiper, gull and wagtail. The resident species include egrets, herons, the black-necked stork, darters, cormorants, and the spur-winged lapwings. For the daredevils, the park also has several reptile species with fish-eating, long-nosed crocodiles, a few species of turtles and tortoises, the Indian python, viper, cobra, krait and king cobra inhabiting the park.
The Flora : Covering over 520 sq km with a core area of 330 sq km, the Corbett National Park boasts of mixed deciduous and sal forests and stretches of savannah grasslands, sheltering numerous carnivores and herbivores.
The Fauna : Corbett is home to several animals and birds. There are around 50 tigers in Corbett, apart from other wildlife like leopards, several lesser cats, the wild dog, porcupines, jackals, civets, sloth bear, black bear, wild boar and a few hundred elephants. You will find antelope, chital, hog deer and sambar graze through the grasslands of corbett. The Rhesus monkey and common langur are ubiquitous, while the long-snouted gharial, marsh crocodile, cobras and pythons can be seen on the mud banks of the Ramganga. The Ramganga reservoir, in the main Dhikala camp region of the park, houses over 600 species of birds, which includes the pied kingfisher, crested serpent eagle, fishing eagle and Himalayan grey headed fishing eagle. The river is also a favourite catch for anglers.
Day 5. Corbett To Delhi

Morning bird watching at Kumeria. Return for breakfast and lunch. After lunch drive towards Bijrani area for birding while taking a jeep ride.
Bijrani: The area in and around Bijrani once formed part of a shooting block. During the British period it was much famed for the quality of game hunting that it offered to shikaris. In comparison to Dhikala, the terrain at Bijrani is drier and also has more diverse vegetation.
